The ROWE VarioFold Compact is a modular electric folding machine designed for wide‑format prints, capable of both offline and online operation. Built for precision, ergonomics, and future adaptability, it handles large drawings, posters, maps, and engineering plans with ease.
The ROWE VarioFold Compact offers major value for organizations that regularly handle large format prints—architects, civil engineers, reprographics, signage and display makers. By automating folding, it saves staff time and reduces errors vs manual folding. Its modular design means you can invest now (offline) and upgrade later to online, without replacing the whole unit. Its build quality and ergonomic design reduce strain and make the working environment more comfortable. Its quiet operation also means you can install it in shared workspaces without excessive noise disruption.
Modular Architecture
The base unit is designed with an aluminium spaceframe to ensure rigidity and precision. Modular add‑ons include Floorstand (height adjustable), Tablestand, Online Bridge, Connection Kit, and various trays.
Offline & Online Operation
Offline mode means manual feed of prints into the machine; online mode allows direct feeding from compatible wide‑format printers (via the Online Bridge & Connection Kit). This dual capability supports gradual upgrade paths.
Flexible Folding Programs
Comes with 12 pre‑installed fold programs. Additional apps (APP SE, APP PRO) enable user‑defined fold types, “favourite” saved programs, and specially extended folding options: long fan‑folds, cross folds, and packet widths.
Endless / Over‑Length Folding
With the Endless Folding Kit (30) or Unlimited version, the VarioFold Compact can process very long rolls or prints without manual restacking—ideal for very long banners, maps, or display media.
High Output Trays & Unattended Operation
Various tray options allow for front output (approx. 5 folded A0 sized prints), a rear delivery tray (≈25 prints or over‑length), and a motorised high volume tray (≈75 prints / over‑length) which lowers as it fills to keep handling easy.
Architectural & Engineering Offices
Folding of large blueprints, civil plans, survey maps that need precision, repeatable folds and clean edges.
Print Shops / Repro Centres
High volume folding, perhaps combined with wide format printing; online mode helps automate job flow.
Signage / Display / Visual Communications
Production of banners, posters, display panels that need folding or packing, especially when stalls or exhibitions demand frequent over‑length graphics.
Government / Municipal / University Departments
For maps, site plans, schematics, infrastructure plans / planning documentation etc.
Design / Fashion / Pattern Making Studios
Where pattern prints and large layouts need to be folded or packed efficiently.
User interface & Software
Control panel with pre‑installed folding programs; optional apps allow custom programs, favourites keys, adjustment of folding parameters in fine increments.
Installation & Space Considerations
Standard floorstand is height‑adjustable. Alternatively a tablestand for tighter spaces (offline mode). Front delivery tray helps reduce required space.
Noise & Working Environment
Designed for quiet operation—suitable even in open layout print / office environments.
Service & Reliability
Durable components, easy access for cleaning and maintenance. ROWE provides published manuals, supports optional modules; warranty / support through authorized dealers.
Yes. The VarioFold Compact is built with modularity as a core feature. You can begin with an offline setup—manual feed, offline feeding tables and trays—and then later add the Online Bridge and Connection Kit (along with required software modules) to integrate it directly with wide‑format printers. This allows you to spread investment over time.
There are optional kits—Endless Folding Kit 30 (≈ 30 m length) or an Unlimited version—that allow folding of very long prints without manual interruption. Useful for banners, maps, continuous display graphics etc.
The machine supports fan / packet folding and cross folding. With the additional apps (APP SE / PRO), you can define custom packet widths, cross fold widths, save favourite programs, adjust in fine steps (1 mm), etc. Pre‑installed are 12 basic folding programs.
Folding speed is about 20 m/min (~ 65.6 ft/min). The exact number of prints per minute depends on the size of the print (A0, A1 etc.), fold style, and output tray used. For example, many sources note ~10 A0 drawings per minute under certain conditions.
The machine is designed for quiet operation. Microcontrollers and step motors are used to minimise vibration and noise. While exact dB(A) values are not always given, “whisper‑quiet” is used in specification/docs. So yes, it’s more suitable than many older folding machines for open environments.
It handles standard large‑format media and paper types used in copy/planning/architectural repro. Specific limits (e.g. thickness) should be checked in your configuration, especially if using heavier stock or specialty materials. Upgrades or specialized trays may help with heavier media.
Maintain as per manufacturer guidelines: keep paper feed tables clean, check rollers, ensure no jams, etc. ROWE provides detailed user manual and accessories servicing. The build (aluminium frame, holding rollers, etc.) is robust. With correct use and periodic maintenance, the machine is designed for long‑term reliability.
Yes. The VarioFold Compact can be configured with a Floorstand (height adjustable between 810‑1010 mm) or with a Tablestand for tighter spaces in offline mode. The front delivery tray helps reduce the footprint required.
If your printer is standard and output is compatible, you can use the Online Bridge and Connection Kit to directly connect the printer to the VarioFold. This allows print jobs to feed automatically into the folder without manual transfer. Offline mode remains available for flexibility. Make sure to check physical layout, interface compatibility, and whether your printer produces outputs matching the folding widths/rates.
